Few weeks ago, I saw someone on Facebook suggest that there should be an OCR Barbie. She would have cuts, bruises and mud under her nails. She’d come with a racing bib, timing chip and a headband as well as a hydration pack and energy gels. Obstacles sold separately.
That would, indeed, make a kick-ass present to an obstacle racing chick in your life.
1. RUN
Salomon SpikeCross
I love these winterized trail running shoes – they are just right for Canadian winters. Slippery trails will not stop you from going for a run, as spiked soles will chew up ice and snow with ease. Just don’t forget to layer up.

Wright Sock
These are the only socks I race in. The double-layered design of these socks minimizes the friction on skin, preventing blisters. Dark colors are also mud-friendly!

2. TRAIN
Training Sandbag
A much nicer alternative to a traditional mesh one which keeps dripping sand down your neck. The variety of handles also makes it easy to grab, whether you are carrying it in front of your torso, across the shoulders or in one hand.

3. READ
"Girl Runner" by Carrie Snyder
See my review of the book here. Other great options include Murakami’s “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running”, and King's “The Long Walk”. Other reading options include subscriptions to Mud & Obstacle magazine, and Outside magazine.

4. FUEL
Clif Bars
Never enough Clif Bars! I love that they come in variety of flavours, so you won’t get bored – perfect for an extra long endurance race. Cool Mint is one of my favorites! They are also sticky enough to hold their shape through any obstacle you may encounter, including water.

5. SOAK
LUSH Bathbombs I hope you have a bathtub. Seriously. Because nothing compares with taking a bath after a race or a heavy training session with one of these babies. Glitter optional, but recommended.

Philosophy Shower Gels
I am a total sucker for these. Especially, the foodie ones. Brown Butter Cookie? Yes, please. Oh, and they have an actual recipe on the back! :)

*Did you find this helpful? Or at least mildly entertaining? Awesome! Can I ask you for a favour?
My good pal and awesome coach Krista Everson has just been nominated for Best CrossFit Coach in Toronto. Do you want to make my day?
Please vote for her here. [Select Vote, scroll to the bottom to click Submit Vote, and click Ok.] Oh, and don’t let the pretty face fool ya – this chick will kick your ass before you can say “overhead squat”.
