One item that has been on my bucket list for a while is “to have a logo designed”. My own brand logo, that is.
It’s been a looong time in the making. I viewed it as something similar to getting a tattoo – first you realize you want one, then you wait for inspiration to hit, then you slowly, slowly start getting a sense of what it is you want.
I didn’t really know what I wanted. But I knew that I wanted the logo to represent who I was.
Few years ago, I went as far as put in a design request to a design agency, but the logos that came back were disappointing, and I never saw anything that “grabbed” me, so I pulled the plug, and walked away from the endeavour altogether.
As I shelved the logo design for the time being, I continued to race, write, and meet awesome people. One of those people was Stephen Sinek, aka The Painted Warrior – a fellow racer, who usually does events covered in intricate body paint designs, and also a talented artist. He was responsible for many logos familiar to those in the sport – Obstacle Racing Media, Fuego Y Agua, and The Rise of the Sufferfests all had logos designed by him. You can see more of his work here.
We went back and forth for weeks. I was afraid that nothing was going to click. Stephen was supportive and encouraging. “You’ll know!”, he kept saying. I remained skeptical.
This whole thing was starting to get reminiscent of wedding dress shopping when everyone kept saying that I’d “know”. Yet I remained a skeptic. It was just a dress after all, and the dress that I ended up purchasing and wearing was lovely and gorgeous. Yet, I also knew that I could have just as easily worn dozens of other dresses, and it would have been just as lovely and gorgeous.
Well… he was right. This beauty is the result.
I will be rolling this out slowly over the next few weeks and months – mostly because I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to branding, rebranding and all that fun stuff.
But you guys get a sneak peek before anyone else.
May I present…
THE LOGO.
Isn’t it freaking awesome?
Hugs, SOLO
