The race drop is here. So I will mope. Tear up.
I no longer walk funny, and it seems like weeks have passed since that extra long and extra boring race briefing on Friday night.
There is nothing to do but put together the race playlist, look through photos and reminisce. For a year.
My personal Canadian Death Race playlist would include the following:
Dream On by Aerosmith
Together We Are One by Serena Ryder
Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
I Would Walk 500 Miles by The Proclaimers
Hips Don't Lie by Shakira
Meanwhile, I reached out to you, awesome Death Racers, and you delivered! Here's a collection of songs that would make an amazing racing or training playlist.
Are You With Me by Lost Frequencies Don't Stop Me Now by Queen Running on Empty by Jackson Browne Dog Days Are Over by Florence + The Machine Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen Runner by Manfred Mann Hells Bells by AC/DC Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) by Kelly Clarkson Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Want To Rock'N'Roll) by AC/DC Light Up The Sky by Thousand Foot Krutch [Stint Remix] A Hard Day's Night by Beatles Fight Song by Rachel Platten Mind Over Matter by Young The Giant Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd Don't Stop Believing by Journey Road To Hell by Chris Rea Long May You Run by Neil Young Climb Every Mountain from The Sound Of Music Take Me To The River by Talking Heads Wake Me Up by Avicii Run The World (Girls) by Beyonce End Of The Line by Travelling Wilburys The Journey by Lea Salonga
*Thanks to all Death Racers who have contributed to the above!
I'm going to finish with this poem someone shared the day before the race. [Thank you, Sheldon Wilcox!]
‘twas the night before Death Race And no one could sleep, All the racers had nightmares Of mountains too steep, Of Slugfest and Hamel, Bum slide and Split Rock, Grizzly bears, wolves, And cougars that stalk.
Blood blisters, black toenails, Chaffing, wet feet, Loose boulders, trail washouts And mud bogs too deep. It will rain, it will blow. We will freeze, we will fry. We will laugh and high five. Late for cut-off – we’ll cry.
So tomorrow we race For a coin and for pride. Cheer us on, if you will. It’s one hell of a ride! GO DEATH RACERS!!!
Thank you, Canadian Death Race. One of the best races I have done to date.
