Thank You, Mark Martinez

Have you seen that quote by Maya Angelou? “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”.


I have been sorting papers on my desk, and found a business card for Mark Martinez.


Chances are I’ll never meet him again, but a while ago he made my day better, so I wanted to send out a little thank you into the universe.


A few years ago, I was on a road trip through the United States, when my car started smoking. I was on the highway at the time, so I pulled over, and started trying to figure out what to do next. As I was frantically searching for the closest tow trucks, and repair shops on my phone, Mark stopped to check that I was ok.


He asked what seemed to be the problem, then asked me to pop the hood to take a quick look. He then proceeded to tell me that he used to be a car mechanic, and that the smoking and the smell coming from my car were from the air conditioning unit – which broke down, but because it was separate from all the important parts, I was actually safe to keep driving.


All I know is that he works for Maryland Transportation Authority, and I don’t even remember what he looks like. But I remember how he made my day few years ago. {Remember that day, Ginger Carter Wanko?}
